Veneers
At Dolphin Dental, we offer our Seminole and Largo patients many ways to enhance their smile, including veneers. Made of porcelain laminate, these can change your tooth position, color, size, and shape, and require very little tooth preparation. While you have many options when it comes to improving your smile’s aesthetics, porcelain laminate can offer amazing results.
What are Veneers?
In short, veneers are a thin layer of porcelain that lie on top of the enamel. Dental porcelain can mimic the look of natural enamel perfectly. Your dentist will remove a small layer of enamel from your teeth, then will chemically bond the porcelain shell to the underlying surface of the tooth. This will allow the veneers to become a permanent part of your smile!
What Can They Do?
At Dolphin Dental of Seminole and Largo, we want to help you perfect your smile! This dental treatment can not only correct small and medium spaces between teeth, but they can also fix:
- Tooth Discoloration
- Worn down areas due to grinding
- Chips and broken teeth
- Gaps inbetween teeth
- Misalignments
- Irregular shaped teeth
Your smile can be transformed into something you will be proud to show off. While veneers are a great form of tooth restoration, they do require the attention of a skilled dentist who will be able to take your specific needs into consideration and ensure the end result is exactly what you are looking for.
How the Procedures Work
When you first meet with us, we will perform a comprehensive exam to ensure everything in your mouth looks healthy. Then we will begin our smile analysis, which includes taking facial measurements to create the perfect sized teeth for your face. We then use a computer program to create an image of what your new smile will look like. The great thing about this process is that, before the actual permanent procedure, we can create provisional teeth that you can wear for up to two weeks to have a trial run of what life with veneers would be like.
Once you have chosen to go ahead with the procedure, you, your dentist, and the dental technician must work together to pick what color the porcelain should be; you can either match it to your existing color or choose from some whiter shades. Finding the right color is important, since these veneers will act as a sort of lens that sits on top of your tooth; they will still show some of the natural coloring through them, but will enhance it into a whiter shade.
Facts About Veneers
Before you go through with any dental procedure, you should always do your best to learn as much as you can about it beforehand. Here are some crucial facts we want you to know:
- While porcelain is strong, it is also brittle. This simply means you should always use common sense before biting into anything hard. Unfortunately, this means you might have to retire from cracking nuts open with your teeth.
- If you are particularly anxious or sensitive, you may request that anesthesia be used during both the preparation and cementation processes.
- Since a layer of enamel will be removed, the first few days after the procedure you may experience some sensitivity to hot or cold foods. This will diminish.
- As they do require some of the tooth to be removed, porcelain veneers are not a reversible treatment.
